Philips Hue Play Bar Smart Light joins the growing line of Philips Hue smart lighting accessories. With your phone, voice and other smart home devices you can control it easily. 

Like the Hue Lily Outdoor Lighting, Play Light Bar is directed towards the surrounding space and is designed to provide a more striking light than to illuminate the entire room. They're easy to set up, deliver great colors, and work well with the Hue Sync app. They are a bit expensive, especially when you think you need a Hue Bridge to use them, but they are a good addition to the households in central Hue.

Philips Hue Play Bar Smart Light comes in a package with two plastic light bars (available in black or white), two vertical brackets, two clips for attaching the bars on the back of the TV or monitor, double-sided tape and mounting screws, and an energy pack. You can connect up to three bars per power supply and additional bars.

These best smart lights use the same Hue app on Android and iOS as Hue Lily Outdoor Spot Lights, Hue White Ambiance Being Ceiling Light, and other Hue lights. The home screen lists all of your rooms and tells you if the lights are on and what color they are set in. You can dim room lights and turn them on and off. 

If you tap a room, you can change the color and brightness properties for each lamp and turn them on and off without changing the other lights in the room. You can also specify one of the preset lighting scenes or create your own using the palette tool.

Philips Hue Play Bar offers rich colors and a beautiful white temperature range. While the lights are not very bright, they are perfect for lighting according to the mood and respond quickly to color changes made using the app. My IFTTT app has the Play Bar light up when the motion-detecting Nest Cam IQ camera works flawlessly, as well as my Alexa voice command to turn these bars on and off.

2. Govee Smart LED Strip Lights

Probably the most prominent supplier of low-cost light strips, Govee offers a wide variety of smart lighting. It updates its lineup on a regular basis, which can make it a little confusing. I tested a number of different models, but the one I recommend is the Govee Smart LED Strip Lights H6163. 

Govee Smart LED comes with a power supply that comes with a button to turn on or off and a button to toggle through colors. There's also a button to activate an acoustic response mode, which lights up and changes color based on music or other sounds in the room. This is ideal if you are placing this strip in a children's bedroom or living room and don't want to use the phone to control it. You can also connect to the strip through the Govee app, although you have to sign up for an account.

The app connects the strip directly to your Wi-Fi and offers additional features, such as timers, sliders for brightness and color temperature, and selection of scenes, including dynamic scenes. The Dreamcolor Wi-Fi Govee Wi-Fi LED strip works flawlessly. I am very impressed by the full range of features offered for such a low price. It works great as a night light and for background mood lighting. But it's not suitable as a primary light source with a color temperature range of 3,000 to 5,000 K and a maximum brightness of 800 lumens.

The Govee Smart LED Strip Lights is 16.4 feet long with a sticky backing and is easy to install. If you have a larger home space, you can opt for 32.8 feet long strip lights with a better price.

3. Sylvania A19 Wifi Smart Light Bulb

The Sylvania A19 Wifi Smart Light Bulb is a good candidate in case you're looking for an affordable color smart bulb that works with both Amazon Alexa and the Google Assistant. Howevers you can't buy only one light bulb.

These best smart lights connect directly to the Wi-Fi network, meaning there's no need for a bridge or smart home hub. Sylvania's mobile app offers a wide range of lighting scenes and powerful automation tools. Sylvania bulbs also lack the HomeKit support that LIFX and Hue bulbs offer, but that will only matter to Apple users using that ecosystem.

Ledvance-owned Sylvania brand offers four Wi-Fi enabled Smart + bulbs: the Sylvania A19 Wifi Smart Light Bulb we are reviewing here, the soft white A19 bulb with dimmable but no adjustment yes, full-color BR30 headlights and soft white BR30. These Smart + Wi-Fi bulbs are relatively inexpensive on an individual basis. There is one tricky point, though: the bulbs are only available in four packages, which means if you want a color A19 Smart + bulb, you'll have to pay for four bulbs.

The A19 + can easily light up a room or workspace by being capable of emitting brightness up to 800 lumens (equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent bulb). However, we should note that the brightest A19 smart bulb can achieve lumen ratings in the 1,100 range. For Apple's HomeKit platform, the Sylvania A19 Smart + bulb doesn't support it. The solution is adding a light scene from the Smart + WiFi app as a Siri Shortcuts, which means you can click Illuminated scenes by asking Siri.

4. Treatlife Alexa Smart Light Bulbs 4 Pack

The prices of smart bulbs are steadily falling, with many good white-only options in the $10 range. The Treatlife Alexa Smart Light Bulbs 4 Pack is one of the most affordable color bulbs we've tested - not to mention much more affordable than existing white-only bulbs.

The bulb reacts instantly to app commands, and I had no trouble turning it on and off, changing its colors, and adjusting brightness levels with Alexa voice commands.

With the Treatlife Alexa Smart Light Bulbs 4 Pack, you can create mood lighting in millions of colors and multiple white temperatures without spending a package. It has its own Wi-Fi radio and requires no hub, and you can change the color and turn it on and off with voice commands from Alexa and Google. 

If you want a full-color smart bulb to work with devices like cameras, motion sensors, and door locks, consider the Yeelight Smart LED Bulb. It's more expensive than the Treatlife bulb, but it uses the IFTTT apps, works with Alexa, Google and Siri voice commands, and supports the Apple HomeKit and SmartThings home automation platforms.

5. Sengled Multicolor Smart Light Bulb

If you are looking to improve your home but don't know where to start, consider installing the Sengled Multicolor Smart Light Bulb. This affordable smart bulb can be installed in any standard E26 socket and connects directly to your home Wi-Fi without a hub. 

It displays 16 million colors, supports Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant with voice commands, and can interact with other smart home devices through IFTTT apps. It also comes with a user-friendly mobile app that lets you create lighting schedules and scenes, and shows you how much electricity the bulb is using.

The Sengled Multicolor Smart Light Bulb is a dimmable A19 bulb with an E26 base that can be used with any standard light socket. It measures 2.3 inches in diameter, 4.2 inches long and has a maximum output of 800 lumens, which is almost equivalent to a 60-watt bulb. It's a 16 million color bulb with a white temperature range of 2000K to 6500K and a rated life of 25,000 hours.

These best smart lights worked flawlessly. The color quality is excellent and the bulb responds instantly to the on, off and color change commands using the mobile app. It also never misses a schedule and reacts instantly to Scenes I have created. Alexa voice commands to turn the light on and off as well as its color and white temperature change are immediately executed, and my IFTTT app lets the bulb turn red when the Arlo camera detects motion perfectly. Power usage data matches well with readings from my Kill-A-Watt meter.
